The Daily Altar

To put Christ at the center before the urgent takes over the day.

Frequency: daily Time: 15 to 30 minutes, in the morning

What it is for

To put Christ at the center before the urgent takes over the day. This is scheduled surrender — a deliberate, specific, non-negotiable time with God before anything else lays claim to your attention.

How to practice

  1. Silence and surrender: come before God with open hands — no agenda, no list of requests. Just be present.
  2. A short Scripture reading (the Word): reading that forms you, not a devotional for comfort. Read with a question: what is God saying here? What does this change about how I live today?
  3. Honest prayer: not just requests — dialogue. Give thanks with specifics. Confess with honesty. Intercede with real names. Ask in faith.
  4. Faithful planning of the three priorities: what are the three most important things I need to do? Who do I need to bless today? Where does Christ need to be Lord in my decisions today?
  5. One decision of obedience for the day.
  6. Micro-altars through the day: a three-sentence prayer before a hard meeting, a specific thanks, a request for wisdom before a decision, a quick handing over of anxiety.
  7. When the routine breaks: don't put the day that passed on trial. Come back. Today. However you are.
